What you need to know before we start

Payment terms

All website design projects are split into two payments. A 50% deposit is due before any work starts, and the remaining 50% is due before the site goes live. Ongoing monthly services such as Google Business Profile management or website maintenance are invoiced monthly in advance. All invoices are due within 7 days of the invoice date. If an invoice is not paid on time, Bernie reserves the right to pause work until the account is up to date.

Project scope

Before any work starts, Bernie will confirm in writing exactly what is included in your project. Any work that falls outside that scope, such as extra pages, new features or additional rounds of revisions, will be quoted separately and will only begin once you have approved the extra cost. You will never be surprised by an invoice for work you did not agree to.

You own everything

Once your final payment is made, you own your website outright. That means the domain name registered in your name, the hosting account in your name, all website files, all written copy and all images supplied by you. Bernie retains no rights over any of your content. If you ever want to move your site to a different developer or platform, Bernie will hand over all files and access credentials without delay or extra charge.

Cancellation policy

There are no lock-in contracts. For ongoing monthly services, you can cancel at any time by giving Bernie 30 days notice in writing, either by email or text message. You will be charged only for the current month you are in. For project work, the 50% deposit covers the work completed to that point and is non-refundable once work has begun. If a project is cancelled before work starts, Bernie will refund the deposit in full.

Website maintenance

Bernie offers optional ongoing maintenance for clients who want someone to handle updates, security patches and small content changes. Maintenance is a month-to-month arrangement with no minimum term. What's covered will be agreed in writing before the service starts. Maintenance does not include major redesigns or new features, which are quoted separately.

Your responsibilities

To keep your project moving, Bernie needs content, photos, login details and feedback from you in a reasonable time. If a project sits idle for more than 30 days because materials have not been provided, Bernie reserves the right to reschedule the project or charge a restart fee. Bernie is not responsible for delays caused by your hosting provider, domain registrar or third-party software.

Confidentiality

Bernie will never share your business information, login credentials or project details with anyone outside of what is needed to do the job. Any third-party tools or platforms used in your project, such as your hosting provider, will only receive the information they need to deliver their service. Bernie takes the privacy of your business seriously.

Questions people ask about how this all works

Still not sure about something? Let's have a chat and Bernie will give you a straight answer.

If I cancel, do I keep my website?

Yes, absolutely. Once your project is paid in full, the website is yours. Bernie has no claim over it and will hand over every file and login if you need to move on. You are never locked in.

What happens if I am not happy with the work?

Before anything goes live, you review and approve it. Bernie works through revisions with you until you are happy. If there is ever a genuine dispute, Bernie's first move is always a conversation, not an invoice or a legal letter.

Will my domain name always be in my name?

Yes. Your domain is registered in your name from day one. Bernie will never register a domain in his own name on a client's behalf. If you already have a domain, Bernie will work with what you have. If you need a new one, Bernie will walk you through setting it up in your own account.

Do I have to sign a contract?

There is no lock-in contract. Bernie operates on a written agreement that outlines exactly what is being built and what it costs. That protects both of you without trapping either of you. You always have a clear record of what was agreed.

What if I need changes after the site goes live?

Small fixes in the first 30 days after launch are included. After that, minor updates can be handled under a maintenance arrangement, or Bernie can quote one-off changes depending on what is needed. Nothing happens without your approval first.

How do I cancel an ongoing monthly service?

Send Bernie a text or email giving 30 days notice and that is it. No forms, no phone tree, no cancellation fees. You will be charged for the current month and then the service stops. Bernie will confirm the cancellation in writing so there is no confusion.
